New Fintech Hypercard Will Enter The Payments Market With The First Consumer Credit Cards For Companies To Offer To Employees
Companies can offer their employees a personal credit card tethered to their work perks. Pre-seed funding round led by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Former Mastercard CEO Gene Lockhart, and Netflix Co-Founder Mark Randolph, among others.
Hypercard, a new fintech dedicated to innovating in the payments market, will be launching the first consumer credit card that companies can offer to their employees. The new credit cards will be for personal use and will integrate the employers’ perks with leading credit card benefits and exclusive dining and lifestyle rewards. The cards will also make it easier for employees to submit expense reimbursements. Hypercard is co-founded by Marc Baghadjian and Nikolas Ioannou, who lead with a design-first, entrepreneurial mindset.
“Employees can miss out on incredible work perks – gym memberships, meal stipends, transportation reimbursement – simply because they are unaware of these benefits, or they are inconvenient to take advantage of,” says Marc Baghadjian, CEO of Hypercard. “Employees will have the option to get a personal credit card from their employer that makes it easy to use their company benefits, with a slew of other rewards layered into the card.”
Hypercard signed an agreement to issue cards on the American Express network in the U.S., and Deserve will act as the program manager. The official card issuer is Celtic Bank. As a new entrant in the payments market, Hypercard is backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, former Mastercard CEO Gene Lockhart, Netflix Co-founder Mark Randolph, One Medical Founder Tom Lee, and others.
Altman stated, “Marc and Niko embody the spirit, drive, and creativity of incredible founders, and I’m thrilled to back them as they work on a new tool to support amazing employee talent. Hypercard's clever fusion of employee benefits and a consumer credit card allows companies to bring their employees tangible benefits which may help increase retention.”
“Fintechs like Hypercard are tapping into the American Express network as an innovation hub,” said William Stredwick, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Global Network Services North America, American Express. “We look forward to giving Hypercard’s customers access to benefits like Amex Offers and the security of our global payments network.”
Card members will be able to take advantage of integrated perks from their employers along with the following rewards and perks:
- Lifestyle perks, such as complimentary Priority Pass Lounge Membership and TSA PreCheck®
- Wellness perks, such as statement credits for BetterHelp and ClassPass
- Travel perks, such as statement credits for purchases of Blade’s Airport Pass and Wander bookings
“When I first met Marc and Niko, I was immediately impressed with the groundbreaking vision to spearhead the industry's first-ever employee consumer credit card," said Lockhart.
